How do you make oil paint translucent?

Partly depends on the paint, some come more so than others and the best have a rating for opacity.





Adding turpentine as a dilutant is the usual way, or you can add some oil as well, but it takes longer to dry that way.How do you make oil paint translucent?

it is basically the oils for paints before pigments are added for color, some richer colors are already enhanced with medium to attain these colours, adding more medium thins pigment to point where thin layers are semi-transparent to next color,

you can thin it out with linseed oil but it would take longer to dry
