What is the most important oil paint colours to have?

Everyone has their idea of what colors are needed to start with. Here is a list of basic colors, but you don't need to have all of them to start. Build up your collection as your budget allows. So, here is the list:

azo yellow, cadmium yellow, hansa/arylide yellow, cadmium yellow medium, cadmium red light, naphthol/pyrrol red, alizarian crimson, quinacridone red, dioxazine purple, ultramarine blue, cobalt blue, phthalo blue, prussian blue, cerulean, viridian, phthalo green, sap green, naples yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna, burnt umber, payne's gray, black, white. A really good web site to reference is outsideshore.com. This gives a lot of good advice on quality of paints, student quality versus artist quality and a lot of information. Take it slow and easy and most of all have fun. What is the most important oil paint colours to have?
That is a very good question but the answer depends entirely on your painting style. I would start with titanium white, cadmium red and yellow, and a cerulean or ultramarine blue. Those are really the only colors you HAVE to have to start with, as most other colors can be made by mixing.

I highly recommend getting a color wheel.. paint mixing and understanding warm/cool colors is very important.

If you can afford more, I would in addition get raw ochre, burnt sienna, mars or lamp black, and alizarin crimson would make a fine, well rounded selection. But they really aren't necessary if you learn how to mix properly.

Good luck, painting is awesome! What is the most important oil paint colours to have?
Black is the queen of all colours start with that and you will be fine.
